AI velocity is infinite, making "more output" a liability. Stop measuring speed; start measuring prompt clarity and review fidelity. Coding is free.
Stupid question.
It completely misses the point. The velocity of an AI Agent is infinite. It can generate 10,000 lines of code before you finish your coffee.
If you are still measuring "Velocity," you are optimizing for the wrong century. Agile was designed to manage the scarcity of typing. AI has created an abundance of code.
When production is free, "more output" isn't an asset. It’s a liability. An agent running at high velocity without high-fidelity specs is just a machine for generating technical debt.
The bottleneck has shifted. The scarcity is no longer in writing, but in verifying:
- Specification: The prompt is the spec. If you can't explain it clearly, the AI will build it wrong - and fast.
- Review: We used to pay seniors to write. Now we pay them to audit. Reading non-human code is the hardest job in engineering.
The Senior Developer is no longer an Author. They are the Editor-in-Chief. Stop asking how fast the agent is. Start asking how clear your prompt is.
This is why Backlog Refinement is the single most important ceremony of 2026. If the input is blurry, the output is garbage.
